BALROG!
(Gandalf confronts the Balrog at the Bridge of Kaazudum)

"I am a servant of the Secret Fire, Wielder of the Flame of Anor; you cannot pass." - Gandalf The Grey (J.R.R. Tolkien)

My beard of flame my heart on fire!

I create the armor of protection now.

YOU SHALL NOT PASS!

We enter the battle - no fear of death!

My eyes were as wide as the universe.

Daimon of

the ancient world

YOU SHALL NOT PASS!

into my heart today.

It was the shadows

that brought us together

and the light of day

that kept us apart.

We felt each other's heart beat

in this directionless void ...

You were all I had,

my fellowship.

I was your shield

of secret fire

upon the breaking shore

beneath your feet.

NOW FLY YOU FOOLS!

Hear me now - I fought the flame

In the mines, the tombs,

I have returned to save the world.

I have a wisdom that never sleeps.

I have a heart forever true.

I pledge my loyalty to you all.

I am the protector of Middle Earth.

It is dark --- but I am strong.

I am your simple flame.

I am the light that endures

when angels have perished.

*

I embraced the shadow

in that moment

and somehow

we got all mixed up.

Balrog, you are inside my heart.

Your fiery tail caught my breath.

We fell into the depths together.

But, I cry out -------------------

YOU SHALL NOT PASS!

I will protect you all forever.

YOU SHALL NOT PASS!

Balrog from the ancient world,

we are the one

night long day long struggle!

You are me ...

and I am you.

*

YOU SHALL NOT PASS!

I will protect myself against myself.

My flame is managed not engulfed.

Your tail finally becomes my tongue.

My eyes in shadows,

my heart goes numb,

my blood runs cold,

I am burnt to cinders.

I am young

yet

I am strong.

The stars are raging in my blood.

I entered timelessness

I had ended before I could begin.

All has changed

but I returned to

change the world

for I was good

as well.

*

I love you all but

I was swept away

and you were too.

*

Balrog of the ancient world!

YOU SHALL NOT PASS!

But indeed you did,

As I crossed you crossed

Our paths were intimate.

We were affected.

YOU SHALL NOT PASS!

But indeed you did

You were a Balrog from Morgoth.

YOU SHALL NOT PASS!

But I have brought you home

inside myself.

I held the darkness in my heart.

You are my Balrog, my companion

my lifelong familiar, lover.

YOU SHALL NOT PASS!

I knew the mines of Moria.

I knew the darkness there.

I put my trust in Frodo

and my faith in God alone.

I was your loyal shield,

your light too bright for pain

when all other lights go dim.

You were my immortality.

A true fellowship of being.

You were my world under threat.

We would perish at any moment.

I had barely begun to live.

YOU SHALL NOT PASS!

You, who I love, how I love.

Make me your shield forever!

Make me - your little Balrog!

Make me the protector of the world,

as I protect the world from my fate.

*

YOU SHALL NOT PASS!

I shout down the Balrog in the mines of Moria!

YOU SHALL NOT PASS!

I shout down the Balrog inside my own heart!

YOU SHALL NOT PASS!

from love into fear in the world today.

YOU SHALL NOT PASS!

to destroy all that is as good as God.

YOU SHALL NOT PASS!

Creature from the ancient world

... because now I shield us both!

YOU WILL NOT CROSS!

YOU SHALL NOT PASS!

I save myself from the world.

I save the world from myself.

YOU SHALL NOT PASS!

YOU SHALL NOT PASS!

Because all is good in the world today.

"The dark fire will not avail you, Flame of Udun! Go back to the Shadow. You cannot pass!" - Gandalf The Grey (J.R.R. Tolkien)
