ONE TEAR FROM GOD: FATHER TO SON

"And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost."
[Luke 23:46, The Holy Bible, KJV]

1.
When God wept for His crucified son,
they were ferocious tears,
other-worldly tears, tears of anguish,
tears of purity, unending tears.

Tears that began before time,
           tears that would continue on,
Tears to hold in reverence,
in silence, tears, God's tears,
                 forever and ever and ever.

One tear, larger than an ocean.
One tear enough, to reflood the world.
One tear held back, for our sake.

One tear from God, to show me,
that I will never grieve alone.
Oh father, what have we done?

2.
There was his praying, grieving mother,
her wet grey eyes, as full as rainclouds,
her heart of purity, pierced and bloody,
upon the beam, that took him skywards.
Then there was John, the faithful one,
a pale lamp, still shining out, amongst
the laughing, jeering, parade of the dead,
the giant weight, of heavenly revelation,
already building and brewing, inside him.
The darkening brow, of a Roman soldier.
The face of Magdalene, upon the ground.
The convict who believed and was saved.
The Prince of this world, now overthrown,
by one great suffering, Father and son,
upon the cross of forgiveness and justice.

3.
Truth, that this world despised,
Lord Jesus, please show us your palms,
so that we can never forget.
the price, that you paid, in loving us.

Beloved, in flesh and in spirit,
We are baptised in water and blood,
as the holy dove descended,
upon your sinless crown of peace.

Let me place my forehead,
upon the strength of your feet,
at the foot of the cross.

Bring your sacrifice to life,
inside my spirit. Oh, set it alight!
Lord Jesus, keep it brightly lit,
         I accept your gift.

Now, prepare my heart, with your ways,
to take up this cross, to trust, to obey,
just keep me awake, under grace,
from these dreams of death,
from the old serpent of lies,
to follow, to rejoice, to exist,
with every tear ever wept, knowingly held,
in your everlasting and perfect presence,
         forever and ever. Amen.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
[John 3:16, The Holy Bible, KJV]
