September 19th, 1997, Why Can't It Scream Like A Sunset?
You ask "Why can't it scream like a sunset, bloody and silent?" Bloody and silent
occurs every moment. A sunset only every twenty four hours, besides the two can
hardly be equated. Should you fight existence or are you prepared to accept it? So
your neighbours eat meat because they saw the lions on the TV doing it? If they live
like lions, shouldn't they be able to kill like lions? Another way to look at it is, if
they were killing and eating people and children, your children (i.e. traditional
cannibals) would that be okay? (Because it's not okay by us, if the lions start doing
it)..Are we going to stop them, the cannibals, or other 'traditional' carnivores such
as lions, tigers and leopards from killing humans beings, children, your children etc?
Well, I'm sure we would impose upon them, even if disagreeing only in a verbal
fashion, if they were murdering people, so what makes non-human animals any
different? (i.e. when they are killing them, apart from them having no rights, of
course). We like to thrill from it on the television documentary, providing it's
someone else's children, right? Killing/murdering is not okay by me, yet there's
bound to be something in the water I'm drinking. To the lion: (wearing very heavy
protective clothing)..."Excuse me, I regret to inform you that the baby Gazelle that
you have set your mind to stalking for the past two days wants to live, now is that
okay by you?" "ROOOAAAARRRRRRRRRR." (a similar response was given by some
animal farmers and police that I've dealt with recently). Well, I want the lion to eat
organic tofu curd from a permaculture farm, where none of the soya bean harvest
has had to suffer, unlike the monoculture killers of sugar cane and wheat, which
has destroyed the lives of snakes, reptiles and field mice that were chopped up
during the harvesting process. I want all animals, including insects to be fruitarian,
also that they don't have to eat anything that has to scream and bleed and suffer as
it goes down. I've never liked bugs on my living skin with their single-minded
intentions. Also, I cannot let people in our society defend their Safeway's flesh
eating habits by comparing themselves to tigers, indigenous or not as they often
do. (i.e...but the lions do it...so why cant I?). For me, it's a dilemma but does that
mean I give up? Does that mean I crawl on all fours stalking cows in a paddock,
their boney brown backs enough to make me gnash my teeth and sweat out hunger
beneath the armpits? In a way all your suggestions and solutions are applicable.
What a planet to live on?! Could someone kindly direct me to a solar system where
nothing had to suffer and be killed? Thank you. If there is a spaceship available,
then I'm outa here...If not, I can always turn to one of the many religions that try to
help us understand why things are the way they are. |
